Malama Honua's Hoʻoulu iā Kamehameha Project
Information about our Project:
Over the past seven months we have learned a good deal of theory about how our natural physical world works and our role within it. We have looked at cycles, and feedback loops, how all things are interdependent and how the modification of one small thing has long lasting effects. All of us have also been exposed to sustainability and sustainable practices that help to have the world that we live in be more efficient and to be thinking of our future. Each of us have definitely already developed a better understanding of the natural world around ourselves and our place in it.
During the fourth quarter, we will work in a group to identify a need at Kamehameha that deals with sustainability, research solutions to that need, build a working resolution, formally present the results of our work to an audience and write an in-depth research paper.
This project will encompass the entire fourth quarter. All of the tasks with the exception of the oral presentation will constitute our fourth quarter grade. The oral presentation will account for our second semester exam grade. Tasks will include…
1. Blog. (Points distributed among other tasks, Ongoing)
2. Developing an Idea. (100 points, 1 ½ weeks; (plus spring break); Mar 2 to Apr 13)
3. The Proposal. (100 points, ½ week: due April 15)

About Us
Aloha mai kākou!
My name is Sheldon Rosa and I am born and raised in Kahalu'u, Oahu. I was blessed with the opportunity to attend Kamehameha schools in 10th grade. I am currently a senior thinking and preparing for my next step in life. Somethings that I enjoy are playing sports, hanging with family and friends, going to the beach, learning about my culture, and playing music. I truly believe that these things play a huge role in my life and helped to shape the man I am today.
I am very glad that I took this class because it is a very great class and it is continually teaching me lessons in life. A goal that I hope to achieve is to show myself and others the importance of our kulaiwis and the value of taking care of and protecting it.

Aloha! My name is Gabrielle Smith Kapiʻolei Smythe. I am a 17 year-old student who attends Kamehameha Schools. I was born on Maui but, soon after I moved to ʻOahu where I currently reside in Waimanalo with my loving Mum and Step-dad. Our little family also owns a vegan restaurant called " ʻAi Love Nalo" where we are committed to serving healthy, local organic food to our community. On my free time, I love to read fiction novels, write, play the guitar, and I absolutely LOVE to travel!
This year I was fortunate enough to get accepted into my school's sustainable futures science class and I am so excited to learn about the natural world and what we can do to preserve its beauty (and ourselves). I believe that sustainability is a critical aspect that more people should be taking seriously. Many people take advantage of the resources that the earth has given to us and don't understand the true effect that will take place if we decide not to change our ways of life. I think it's time that we give the world the love that it deserves!

My name is Ashton Keanaaina and I am currently a senior at the Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Campus. The Hawaiian culture and identity was an aspect of knowledge that has been bestowed in my naʻau from a very young age. My love for Hawaiian activities and knowledge is something that gives me great strength, happiness, and passion to further future generations. Although I don't know everything Hawaiian, I try to expose myself to activities and ʻike that helps me to understand my kupuna and future better.
This year I am currently the Keiki Kahu for our campus' Deputation Team and play Volleyball, Rugby, and Paddle for my school. Extra-curricular's that I am involved in include Concert Glee, Hawaiian Ensemble, International Relations Club, Hui Hawaiki, and Deputation Team. I love to go adventuring and traveling the world. My hopes is to become the CEO of either Walt Disney or Hawaiian Airlines. There is no great love that I have for God, my family, friends, and perfection. |
